During the 1984 presidential campaign and later after George H. W. Bush was elected president, the media, aided by their Democrat handlers, took delight in labelling him as a “wimp.” But the “George Bush is a wimp” meme was nothing more than a partisan effort to falsely smear and defame a President because he was a Republican. Like their effort to depict Gerald Ford, perhaps the best athlete ever to occupy the White House, as clumsy, they were just more lies in the service of partisanship.
In fact, when he earned his wings in 1943, George Bush was the youngest pilot in the Navy. Being a pilot in World War II was not for wimps. About 100,000 airmen were killed in World War II. In September 1944, Lieutenant (junior grade) Bush and his two crewmates were making a bombing run over the Japanese-held island of Chi Chi Jima, when their torpedo bomber was crippled by antiaircraft fire. Twenty-one-year-old Lieutenant Bush continued his bombing run in the face of enemy fire and dropped his bombs shortly before having to bail out of his stricken aircraft. He was subsequently rescued by a U.S. submarine. Bush was the only survivor of his three-man crew.
There is at least one candidate for the label “wimp,” and it is not George Bush. It is the current occupant of the White House.
The Cambridge Dictionary defines “wimp” as “a person who is not strong, brave or confident.” One of my instructors in the U.S. Army Ranger School had a more colorful definition: “You are a wimp! Do you know what a wimp is? A Weak, Incompetent, Malingering P***y.”
Biden fits either definition.
Leaving aside my Ranger instructor’s final anatomical element in his definition of “wimp,” the first two elements pose the greatest danger to the Country. By now, the facts are so well known that Biden’s weakness and incompetence do not require a great deal of elaboration. Consider just these examples of each:
Weakness is a signature of the Biden foreign policy. We are dealing with multiple crises across the globe because Biden’s weakness inspired them in the first place. Recall his invitation to Putin to invade Ukraine by suggesting that a Russian invasion would be acceptable if it was just a little invasion.
The line between weakness and incompetence is a blurry one. The overlap is exemplified by Biden fueling the fire in the Mideast by funneling billions — billions — of dollars to our and Israel’s mortal enemy, Iran.
Weakness or incompetence? Despite the continued attacks on our troops, on U.S. warships, and on international shipping generally, Biden steadfastly refuses to punish the ultimate source of these attacks — Iran. What his handlers tell him is restraint is perceived by our enemies as weakness. Similar to his invitation to Putin’s aggression, it invites more and wider attacks because so far there is little or no cost to be paid.
Incompetent and weak? These Iranian/Houthi attacks on shipping have escalated since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war last October. As of January 11, the date of our retaliatory air strikes, there had been 27 such attacks. So, Biden and his administration have had three months to deter further attacks. Not only have they not done so, but the Iranians and Houthis show their contempt by launching new strikes, again and again after our toothless ultimatums and ineffective counterstrikes.
Incompetent? Biden also has had months to figure out what the rules of engagement for our forces should be. When Iranian-backed terrorists fire ballistic missiles at our ships, does the Commander of the Eisenhower strike group have the authority to protect his ships by hitting back? The CENTCOM commander? No, apparently not – the ineffective strikes had to be approved at the Secretary of Defense and Presidential levels. This level of micromanagement began in the Vietnam War, when LBJ was picking out bombing targets and was duplicated by Obama, who did the same. It violates fundamental military doctrine.
Strength? Biden hid in his basement for most of the 2020 campaign. For the better part of the past year, he has followed that game plan by assiduously avoiding any interviews with tough, probing journalists, preferring instead to sit down with lickspittle interviewers from CNN and MSNBC or friendly comedians, such as Jon Stewart and Conan O’Brien. As my Ranger instructor would have said, “What a p***y.”
How about the third element of my Ranger instructor’s definition? “Malingerer” is normally associated with feigned illness. But the pretend illness is a ploy to avoid having to work. So, I count Biden’s continual beach vacations while the world is aflame and our troops and ships are being fired upon, as shameless malingering.
This list is by no means exhaustive. Everyone can add more examples. The Country is crying out for leadership worthy of a Great Power. If we do not get it, the Country will continue its slide away from greatness.
"For the better part of the past year, he has followed that game plan by assiduously avoiding any interviews with tough, probing journalists, preferring instead to sit down with lickspittle interviewers from CNN and MSNBC ...." Well said. Joe Biden has always been a low rung politician who had his pockets stuffed by those who would fill them.
No of course not!
