Virginia Senator Tim Kaine gave one of the more disgraceful performances in Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing, and that’s saying something because he had some stiff competition. But you don’t know the half of it — his hypocrisy is worse than you know.
First, Kaine’s performance. Here is a United States Senator in all his self-righteous glory:
When did you stop beating your wife? If you did beat your wife would that disqualify you from office?
Kaine’ questioning literally falls into the “When did you stop beating your wife?” category. Take a look at the segment beginning at 3:22, for example:
Q. Did you ever engage in any acts of physical violence against any of your wives?
Q. But you would agree that if someone had committed physical violence against a spouse that would be disqualifying to serve as secretary of defense, correct?
Note the technique here. Kaine just wants to link Hegseth in the same breath with allegations of having used “physical violence against a spouse.” If Hegseth fell into the trap of answering this question, then given the Democrats’ track record, it is perfectly conceivable that they would come up with some anonymous accuser who would claim that they heard that Hegseth beat his wife. The Dems could then exalt that accuser as the font of all truth. Armed with that “truth,” they would then argue that the nominee’s own words show that he should not take office or should resign. Just read the history of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing if you doubt that this is their playbook.
After Hegseth pointed out that this was only a “hypothetical,” Kaine injected this:
I don’t think it’s a hypothetical. Violence against spouses occurs every day, and if you as a leader are not capable of saying that physical violence against a spouse should be a disqualifying fact for being secretary of the most powerful nation in the world, you’re demonstrating astonishing of judgment.
All manner of evils occur “every day.” Banks are robbed. People are killed. Children are trafficked across the border and sold into sexual slavery. No nominee should be questioned about whether he or she has engaged in, say, producing child pornography, and then be asked, “Well, wouldn’t it be disqualifying if you had?”
But Kaine’s shamelessness and hypocrisy was even worse for reasons that many don’t know. Read on to see why.
Kaine’s sudden concern about sexual morality is something new.
Less than two years ago, Kaine was asked for his views on paid porn performer who was a Democrat running for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. At that time Kaine was so concerned about sexual morality in the political sphere that he refused to criticize an unapologetic married woman who had sex on camera for money, BECAUSE SHE WAS A DEMOCRAT.
I previously documented the story in some detail on September 30, 2023, in “Moral Standards Crumble, Senators Fiddle.” Here are some excerpts from that article that will give you the gist of the pornographic Democratic candidate whom Tim Kaine refused to say should drop out of her race:
Plot spoiler: As you read this, keep in mind that this was a Democratic candidate from his own state whom Tim Kaine refused to criticize.
The Emperor Nero is said to have fiddled while Rome burned. In the centuries since, that has become a metaphor for public officials occupying themselves with trivia while ignoring calamities. Now the Democrat party is fiddling away while a well-organized attack on fundamental cultural values is causing moral standards to crumble.

Ms. Gibson is the Democratic candidate for District 57 of the Virginia House of Delegates. She is a nurse practitioner and lifelong Democrat. Her GOP opponent is retired businessman and building contractor David Owen.
BIG PORN AND THE PORN STAR CANDIDATE
In addition to being a nurse practitioner, Ms. Gibson has another job – she is a porn star (unless she has stopped since her sideline business was exposed). And make no mistake about it, Gibson is a cog in the “big porn” machine.” She and her husband live-stream sex shows for money. . . .
GIBSON’S BUSINESS MODEL
Gibson, a self-described “slut,” and her husband perform on a Big Porn platform called “Chaturbate,” which the Post described as a name derived “from the act of masturbating while chatting online.” The name gives you some idea of the site’s business model. The Gibsons have over 5700 subscribers to their “HotWifeExperience” channel.

In one video session she offered to allow viewers to watch her urinate in exchange for tips in tokens saying, “Y’all can watch me pee if you tip me and some tokens.” She claimed the money was going to an unspecified “good cause.” There are other examples of her offering to perform if subscribers paid up, but that one will suffice.
Apparently Chaturbate offers the option of restricting some performances to “private rooms” where customers can see more in exchange for bigger tips. In a video that the Daily Wire reports was recorded after she had launched her campaign, she said to her husband, on camera, “I’ll let you f*** me in the a** doggy style in a private room if someone wants to pay. That’s the deal.” Or, “I just want a private room with somebody filming their c*** so I can come looking at it, Jesus Christ …. Oh God I want to f***ing get railroaded by all of you.” Understand, these offers were made in exchange for money paid via tokens.
In another session she said that she claimed to be “ethically nonmonogamous” (whatever that is) but admitted that having sex with three men in one day may have been pushing even her ethical limits. “Don’t tell my husband he was the third. I would say ethically nonmonogamous, but I guess that three in one day was not.”
She says that she and her husband, David, are in an “open relationship.” “Yeah, I f*** random strangers if you're hot,” she says. But she also says that her husband “doesn't like sharing.” But David adds, “Sometimes I have to though. She makes me.”

Gibson’s defenders, through their silence, include Virginia’s Democrat senators Tim Kaine, and Mark Warner, as well as Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, who has said that she will run for governor in the next election. I contacted the offices of both Senators and Representative Spanberger by telephone and by email, numerous times. All have assiduously avoided answering questions or criticizing Gibson’s candidacy, much less calling on her to withdraw from the race.
When the personnel in their offices learned that I was working on an article about Gibson’s candidacy, they clammed up and asked me to submit any questions in writing. So, I did. They did not answer. I received no response when I followed up with a request for a reply of some sort. The questions that I sent to Kaine are included in the Appendix at the end of this article. Those to the others are identical with only the names changed. Basically, they ask if each recipient supported Gibson’s candidacy and to justify the reasons for such support.
Even though they all requested written questions, none answered a single question. Nor have any even explained why they will not respond. Based upon their refusal to condemn her candidacy, perhaps these Virginia senators and would-be governor agree with a Michigan-based lawyer for the porn industry, who, in a sure signal that the apocalypse is upon us, described her candidacy as “very refreshing.”

For his part, in a chest-thumping show of faux non-partisanship, Senator Kaine self-servingly claimed that “I don’t mind criticizing administrations that are Democratic or Republican.” Nonetheless, despite his bravado, he is afraid to answer whether he had an “opinion on whether or not Gibson should continue her campaign.” When asked, Kaine evaded the question and regurgitated an evasive word salad that is available on YouTube. Kaine just kept repeating that he was “very surprised,” “didn’t really know her,” and that, “you know, look, she hasn’t even asked me for an endorsement.” What a profile in courage!
It is fair to say that Kaine tried to protect himself by half-heartedly distancing himself from Gibson. But he refused to protect Virginia citizens and the dignity of the House of Delegates by calling on Gibson to discontinue her campaign or even by criticizing her candidacy in the slightest. Kaine obviously did not want to take the heat from his fellow leftists of being “patriarchal.”
These politicians will not go on the record to condemn prostitution and the trash on Gibson’s Chaturbate site. The same is true of the Virginia Democrat party. Given this failure, one must ask, ‘Is there anything a Democrat can do that they will condemn?’ Given their refusal to answer questions about this shameful affair, the answer presumably is “no.” They are too cowardly to say anything in support of any standards of decency and propriety. . . .
In the video linked immediately above, Kaine was questioned about Gibson’s candidacy. About all he would say was that he was “surprised.” When directly asked (at 0:58) if she should “continue her campaign,” he ducked the question by repeating that, “she hasn’t even asked me for an endorsement,” and that he was “surprised.”
Contrast Kaine’s repeated calls for Hegseth to be “disqualified,” with his permissive attitude toward a paid porn performer. This is the same senator who obviously took pleasure in trying to humiliate Hegseth with pointed question about breaking his marriage vows, but who winked at the behavior of a porn star who bragged of having perverted sex with other men on camera, even though her husband supposedly “doesn’t like sharing.” To paraphrase the much-copied Los Angeles Times columnist and screen writer, Bert Prelutsky, ‘If Tim Kaine didn’t have double standards, he wouldn’t have any standards at all.’
And while we are on double standards, I would be remiss if I failed to point out Oklahoma Senator and former undefeated MMA fighter Markwayne Mullin’s response to Kaine’s line of “questioning:”
How many senators have showed up drunk to vote at night? Have any of you guys asked them to step down and resign from their job? And don’t tell me you haven’t seen it, because I know you have! And how many senators do you know have gotten a divorce for cheating on their wives? Did you ask them to step down? No. But it’s for show.
Watch him here (beginning at 2:46):
Hypocrisy and double standards, indeed. Like every other Democratic senator in that hearing.
But if you are tired by now of watching Senate hearings, you can close by catching one of Mullin’s MMA cage victories here:
Submission in a little less than 3:00.
Bravo, Bravo Blue! Your essay is the very best disquisition on "hypocrisy" that I can recall having ever read. Of course, hypocrisy is inseparable from cowardice, and hypocrisy cannot exist without complete lack of integrity. Senator Kaine exhibits these deplorable traits. I recall that word "deplorable" being used by another Democrat. Sadly, the once honored Democrat party is exhibiting the traits that Senator Kaine is showing us.
This is the same carbon unit that stated Slavery began in America. Please take a moment and leave him a note on his Senate website. I said the following:
"I am deeply disappointed and disgusted by the line of questioning directed at Pete Hegseth during today's Senate confirmation hearings. Witnessing what should be a platform for constructive dialogue and assessment devolve into unnecessary attacks and distractions is disheartening. Our leaders owe it to the American people to focus on qualifications and substantive issues rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric. We deserve better."
