I watched a clip of the movie "Strategic Air Command" with Jimmy Stewart today, it was made in the 1950's and harkens back to a time when the United States was at the peak of its power and influence in the world. It was like a world in another galaxy. The contrast between the America of my youth and today's reality is really dispiriting.
Can you imagine the majority of American citizens of the 1950's putting up with the sort of America hatred John observed at this meeting? Honestly, I'm starting to feel like Clint Eastwood's character in Gran Torino...a cranky old man figuratively yelling "Get out of my Country" at the scum who seem to be taking over.
How did we ever allow things to get to this point?
Have you considered looking into the Studio Two Three situation going on? The sign from one of the photos in this article was made and sold by them and they’ve been clashing with the Jewish community to the point that statements have been released.
It’s a nonprofit art studio in Richmond, the director also works at VCU. A couple of months ago they started posting community art projects they were doing about Palestine on their instagram starting with a “from the river to the sea” tshirt. There’s a lot going on but a very quick summary is that they received an email from someone and published it on their instagram, then wrote an article about it and had it published by style weekly, posted an instagram post implying a broken window at their location was perhaps due to the Jews for their stance on Palestine/Gaza, and then more recently made the “free palestine” signs some people had at the council meeting.
Enforce the anti-masking law! (An anti-Klan law passed in the supposedly deeply racist, systemically racist!, South.

It’s the “ It can’t happen here” mentality. I have some thoughts on that that might be grist for another article.
