This is a short follow-up to my August 28 article, “My Experience with Government-Required Wokeness.” It describes more government-inspired craziness I encountered during a routine visit to a local emergency room and another hospital visit shortly afterwards. The immediate catalyst for this article was a comment a reader posted to my earlier article describing how she recently took her 14-year-old son to have his vaccinations updated and also was required to fill out a two-page form “about his gender identity.” The health care provider then demanded to interview her son in private, without her allowed to be present. That brings me to my most recent experiences and my efforts to discover just who was pushing this woke agenda.

Labor Day weekend I went fishing on a lake near my house. As I was winding up my morning, I landed a nice bass and was trying to remove the hook from his mouth so that I could release him back into the water. The bass apparently decided that turn-about was fair play. So, as he was vigorously fighting my efforts to free him, he managed to imbed another treble hook in my calf. The barb of the hook and part of the shank was buried fairly deeply in my leg, so I decided that it would be prudent to go to the ER to get a tetanus shot and ask them to remove the hook.

As I was awaiting treatment, a nurse came in and said, “We have to ask you this.” With a straight face, she then asked if I was male or female. Could it be that she thought that I was there because I was suffering from schizophrenia and could not distinguish reality from what is imaginary? Perhaps she thought that I was under the delusion that I was a woman? That could be the only rational explanation for asking if I really was a man.

Initially I did not say a word but just stared at her with my best effort to project incredulity at such a question. She apologetically repeated “We have to ask that.” After staring at her soundlessly a bit longer, I finally said, “I am here to get a fishhook removed. Such questions have nothing to do with that and I am not going to say anything more.”

Later in the week I had an almost identical experience during an appointment at the local Veterans’ Administration Hospital. Sitting four feet away from the questioner who had a clear and unobstructed view of me, I was asked, “Are you a man?” Again, I just stared at the questioner without responding, trying my best to silently convey, ‘That is a ridiculous question, and I am not going to dignify it with a response.’

These two experiences, almost back-to-back and at different hospitals, combined with my earlier experience with the “gender identity questionnaire” used by a third hospital, reinforced the thought that this poison has metastasized to virtually the entire medical community. So, I did some additional research, trying to figure out how such lunacy has taken ahold of the entire medical community.

I discovered, among other things, that on June 15, 2022, Joe Biden signed Executive Order No. 14075, which is an incredibly broad directive to all federal government agencies to promote the queer [Biden’s word] agenda and to bring the power of the federal government to bear upon state and local officials and parents who are trying to protect young children from it. The introduction to the President’s order states:

“Today, unrelenting political and legislative attacks at the State level—on LGBTQI+¹ children and families in particular—threaten the civil rights gains of the last half century and put LGBTQI+ people at risk. These attacks defy our American values of liberty and dignity, corrode our democracy, and threaten basic personal safety.”

“It is therefore the policy of my Administration to combat unlawful discrimination and eliminate disparities that harm LGBTQI+ individuals and their families, defend their rights and safety, and pursue a comprehensive approach to delivering the full promise of equality for LGBTQI+ individuals . . . .”

The state “legislative attacks” that Biden ordered the federal government to fight include the efforts by many states to protect young children from gender mutilation and to allow parents to prevent woke school administrators (not just those who are drag queens) from secretly trying to groom/indoctrinate their school children into the “LGBTQI+” agenda.

Biden’s Executive Order is exceedingly broad. It basically is a call to arms for the entire federal government to implement a cultural agenda rejected by most Americans. It commands a spectrum of federal agencies to engage in the fight. These include the Cabinet Departments of Education, State, Justice, Housing and Urban Services, and Health and Human Services, as well as the FTC, USAID, CDC, NIH, and many others. And as we now know, even the Department of Defense is not immune from such political indoctrination as evidenced by (among many other things) the recent disclosure that citations supporting military awards and decorations must employ gender neutral pronouns to describe men.

Because it is so all-encompassing, a full analysis to show how this Executive Order encroaches on all aspects of our lives is far beyond the scope of this short article. For our limited purpose here, Section 11 of the Order directs the various Cabinet Secretaries and agencies to collect mountains of data about sex and gender to support the overweening federal effort to impose its gender ideology on the entire country:

Promoting Inclusive and Responsible Federal Data Collection Practices. (a) Advancing equity and full inclusion for LGBTQI+ individuals requires that the Federal Government use evidence and data to measure and address the disparities that LGBTQI+ individuals, families, and households face, while safeguarding privacy, security, and civil rights.

(b) To advance the responsible and effective collection and use of data on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics (SOGI data), the Co-Chairs of the Interagency Working Group on Equitable Data . . . shall, within 30 days of the date of this order, establish a subcommittee on SOGI data to coordinate with agencies on strengthening the Federal Government's collection of SOGI data to advance equity for LGBTQI+ individuals.

The presidential command to “collect[] and use … data on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics” explains why hospitals that come within the ambit of the Department of Health and Human Services now ask a man whether he really is a man or if that was just a label that his mother’s OBGYN “assigned” to him at birth.

So, now when you go to any hospital, expect more of the same forced conformity until a different administration begins to unwind Biden’s executive orders and the regulations imposed by the administrative state and woke bureaucrats who have embraced this propaganda.

A final note: As I mentioned above, a complete analysis of Executive Order No. 14075 is beyond the scope of this short article. However, one other aspect merits a brief mention here. It is that it is Biden’s (or his unknown puppeteers’) have an ambitious agenda to impose this same woke ideology on the entire world. Mothers in Michigan, Muslims in Iraq, campesinos in Mexico, tribesmen in Africa, . . . All shall be made to comply. That shall be the subject of a future article, so stay tuned.
