I believe honoring the military should be a regular thing for our country. We need to overwhelm the opposition to such events. I'm tired of hearing the bemoaning of the few which seems to overshadow the true patriotism of most Americans. Time to shout down the naysayers and call them out publicly. Shame them. Boo them. Overwhelm them singing our National Anthem.
The only large military parade in my lifetime (born 1958) was the Gulf War parade in June, 1991. I am certain Saturday's parade will be much larger. Why can't we celebrate the Military with a large parade? After all, I can't think of any other group of Americans to which we owe more.
As an Army and Navy vet I fully support honoring our troops with a parade. This is especially important as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the Continental Army which provided the force for Independence and ushered in the US Army.
As our men and women are now engaged in hostilities in the Middle East it is important that they know we have their back and appreciate their sacrifices. Prayers out to all serving the USA.
Had a couple of guys in my DAV chapter sending stuff attacking the parade. I shut them down quick by pointing out that this was about the army and not Trump. They backed off after that.
I fully support the reasons for and purpose of the parade. I had to deal with a classmate who believes the parade is Trump's demonstration of an authoritarian king. How does one deal with a mentally confused brain?
One more thought on the 250th anniversary parade. If this was about Trump wanting a parade to celebrate his birthday he had 4 years to do so as the anniversary of the Army is always the 14th of June and Trump's birthday never changes either. Only with the 250th anniversay and the kick off of the USA's 250th year since the Declaration of Indepence about to be celebrated is this the proper time for a large celebration of the Army and the Nation.
BTW, appreciate the Toby Keith link. I play his CD and get goose bumps hearing both Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue, as well as American Soldier (know the lyrics pretty much by heart, I sing RVing around this fantastic country). My cousin, a Vietnam vet, and his wife play American Soldier often as they lost their son to an IED in Afghanistan. The song is special to them!
I'm from Oklahoma & went to the University of Oklahoma. They play Toby's Courtesy of the Red White & Blue before the 4th quarter starts. There are 85,000+ fans singing along. When it's time for the Boot in their Ass line, it gets REAL LOUD! God Bless Toby's Keith.
I 100% support the parade in honor of the Army (and Navy) 250th birthday. The key issue lies in that this parade is being held under a Trump Presidency and those who are against the parade are against Trump. It is merely patriotic and divine coincidence that President Donald J Trump shares his birthday with the United States Army and Flag Day (don't forget the birthday of the Betsy Ross Stars and Stripes in 1778!). They that hate American Patriotism and Trump are the same - tarred with the same ugly brush. They don't mention that parades like this have been held many times before. And should continue!
June 14th also happens to be MY birthday, and I will celebrate 44 wonderful years of life on this amazing planet and as a Citizen of this Amazing country this year! I will be passing on this message of support to all of my Congressmen and Representatives. If we do not stand up to celebrate our Military, then we have lost all hope of standing up for America as a "Free Nation". The very ideals of our foundations are being swept away by those who would cancel these sorts of Patriotic celebrations. Cancel them! Hold the Parade! Be proud to be an American! And wish everyone who happens to share this special day with their own birthday, a very Happy June 14th Birthday! God Bless America!
John, good on you. I think the resulting article was "fair and balanced", as you said. I would have imagined that veterans' reaction to the parade would range from supportive to indifferent. Wrong again, I just can't keep up with the rancor out there. As Freud said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." Not everything that takes place in the US today is a moral issue.
We must always honor the Army, all our military, and their families, for the sacrifices and service given to our country throughout our history. Without them, our country would not exist.
Patriotism must be a value instilled in our children along with our country's history, so our citizens understand their duty to this nation and the value of our military's service.

Yes! My sentiments exactly! Sing loudly and drown out their noise!

Not a fun situation.

I agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly.

Thank you, sir. Well said.
Incidentally, the guy who took the photo of those bravo blues air assaulting is in my Rotary club here in Springfield, Mo.
P.S. Please give my regards to Maj. gen. Nardotti when you speak with him.
