I took some time off between my sophomore and junior years in college and worked for a wholesale travel agency in Manhattan in the early '70's. As luck would have it, I was selected to lead several "People to People" tours sponsored by the US State Department to the Soviet Union. The experience confirmed me as an American. One of the many things I observed was how propaganda and control of information was used to shape people's opinions. But, my big "ah ha" moment came at the airport newsstand in Stockholm where, after weeks of only being exposed to Pravda, Izvestia, Trud, and the Moscow News, I was finally able to read western publications. And you know what? They were just as slanted and propagandistic. It was as if Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report, NY Times all coordinated with one another to report on the same things and emphasize the same conclusions about them.
Apropos your article, John, I've come to believe our so called "free press" is no such thing - it's just as much State (or maybe "Establishment")media as was Pravda, Izvezdia, et al. They control the flow of information and bombard us with talking points that are meant to shape our opinions and, ultimately, to shape the way people vote.
Goebbels, in his wildest imaginings, couldn't hope to control such a powerful propaganda machine as exists today in this unholy alliance between the government, mainstream media, and Big Tech social media.
I cannot disagree. I have pondered the best way to describe what various people call the "mainstream press," "corporate media," "legacy media," and the like. I finally settled on "ancien régime." I like it best for a number of reasons. Perhaps because, invoking the French revolution, it reminds me that the remedy should be "à la lanterne."
I'm sorry but I just can't get excited about the academic prowess of an English teacher at a community college. It ain't Harvard Jack! It's not even a third tier state college in say Arkansas. Jill is a "professor" on English whose incoming students are mostly subliterate. Whoo ee@
And don't get me started on what I think of an Ed D degree. I've read some of the theses that supported an Ed Degree when I spent a good deal of time working with local school administrators. Some of those theses could have been written by Dr. Jill's students--or by Moochelle Robinson when doing her senior thesis at Princeton. I' not impressed.
"I not impressed" told me all I needed to know about your comment. Great finish to your attempted trashing of an Educator. Let's see your Credentials and Thesis and then we can Debate. Enough said.
Okay. I've got a Bachelors Degree and a J.D. from Boalt Hall (UC Berkeley--California Law Review, Order of The Coif, author of a law review comment on informed consent in medical malpractice which has been cited more than 100 times), two aunts who were high school teachers in Los Angeles, a sister, a sister in law, a brother in law who were all high school or junior college teachers, 32 years serving on a civil service commission for the local school board. During that 32 years the local district had six different superintendents, and I was familiar with all of them. In the course of that service with the district I read the Ed D theses of three different deputy superintendents. So put your credential dukes up Mr. Spainhower. I'm not worried. Oh by the way with my J.D. degree I could call myself "Doctor" but I prefer plain and simple "Mike".
I haven't seen any actual coverage of DOCTOR Jill Biden teaching anything, let alone 15 credit hours. Let's just say I have serious doubts that she's actually doing any real teaching. (I have taught 15 credit hour semesters, and they don't leave a lot of time, when properly done, for much else.)
Like so much of this admin, I suspect the "full time teaching" is a damn lie.
Should have known that I landed on a Site with supporters of the "Federalist ' That explains the level of contempt, condescending attitudes and lack of anything substantial enough to debate that isn't just Hogwash Rhetoric. Enough said.
Really? How condescending considering you claim to also be an Educator. Let's bear witness your Credentials right here and prove yourself. Otherwise it's just hogwash. Enough said.
Bill, thanks for taking the time to comment. I actually had a reason for using “ancien régime” other than just trying to be cool! It evokes a history that has some parallels today. As you know, the French revolution, like many (most?) conflicts was fought primarily over economics. The commoners struggled to feed and support their families (Think of the families today who struggle to put food on the table and pay the rent after maxing out their credit cards). At the same time, the disparity between their poverty, and the obscene wealth of the nobility (today’s “elites”) added fuel to the flames. It is not a perfect analogy, and I am not predicting guillotines in Times Square anytime soon, but there are parallels, which I think are relevant today. “Old regime“ just doesn’t evoke the same history.
I hope I have convinced you, but either way, please keep commenting and tell your friends!
I suggest reading "Dr" Jill Biden's dissertation. Talk about grade-school quality hogwash. She can't write as clearly as Joe speaks.
But can she write as clearly as Kamala speaks?
She really should have paid the extra $50 to have a high school student write it, rather than go cheap with the middle schooler.
I read iit and you're wrong. I'll debate you on this any day of the week. Let's see your Credentials first though. Apparently you're a tad Jealous.

That should be the operative presumption! See my earlier article in The Federalist here: https://thefederalist.com/2021/08/30/if-joe-bidens-team-will-lie-about-his-dog-biting-people-what-wont-they-lie-about/

"ancien regime" is a bit esoteric for the average American product of the edu system these days. Why not "the old regime," instead?
