In the past, I had a few (misguided) people tell me that I should run for Office. My response usually was to quote Dirty Harry: “A man’s got to know his own limitations.“ Being a successful politician, especially at the congressional level, requires a special skill set. Most, if not all, of those who have succeeded in getting elected, have the required skill set, at least at some level. But as you point out, that does not mean that they are smart, just skillful at a specific task. I at least had enough self-awareness to recognize that I lacked the appropriate skills to succeed in that arena. I would have been a total flop as a candidate or politician. Somehow the Republic has managed to survive without me.
In military terms, Tuesday night was a rout. The Democrat side of the chamber was literally running for the exits before the President even stepped away from the dais. Routed enemy can rally, we must be always vigilant, but the Dems took a horrible beating. "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
I've sort of run out of words to describe my contempt and disdain for these people.
We're living in completely separate realities. I have almost nothing in common with them.

You should see some of the emails by people whom both you and I know. Educated and experienced people with serious TDS.
