I'm proud of my time in the military 1968-1972. Virtually every veteran I know feels likewise. Standards were high, and both excellence and proper conduct were demanded. Sorry Mr. Lucas but your article, well written as it is, misses the point. The new regime in the USDOD (Which has actually been around since the Obama administration.) is in fact preparing to fight and win the next war. You, foolishly, imagine that war being fought against Russia or China. The new Praetorian Guard know what's coming and are preparing for it. The US military will fight its next war against the American people, and the Alphabet Brigade will be central to their victory. Who else but the "Trans" will have the deep seated, vicious, hatred of the normal needed to order and carry out the genocidal operations that will be needed to bring the former USA into compliance?
The Marine Corps isn't doing so well either; the current and the prospective Commandants are overseeing the destruction of Combined Arms by cutting infantry, cannon artillery battalions, Close Air Support aircraft and completely eliminating armor, engineer, and assault amphibian capabilities.
Those "leaders" don't see any problems at all with young ladies in combat infantry companies, or openly-serving gays in leadership positions with their infusion of sex into units and its undisputable corrosive effects on combat cohesion and trust.
Our entire armed forces will need a flush of its useless and excessively woke leadership to regain our ability to fight and win.

I do not consider myself sufficiently knowledgeable to try to write about it, although my instincts align with yours. It seems to me that in his quest to be prepared for a littoral war with China, the Commandant is gutting the Corps' capabilities of performing other missions. But that is a "horseback opinion" that does not come from any great expertise or experience.

Unfortunately, the woke communists now control the GAE's military. It is doubtful anyone will turn that around anytime soon, and it is a mark of the decline of the empire. The next war against a peer competitor will see the GAE's military shredded.
Were the GAE stupid enough to send its military against Russia in Europe, that military would lose badly. Just see the GAE mercenaries who went to fight for Ukraine, and turned around and turned tail after being under a Russian artillery barrage. The GAE would not be fighting poor brown people, armed only with AK47s and grenade launchers.
